Lean Six Sigma Tour

Lean Six Sigma tour at the GE Engine Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Subang.


On 6th October 2009, Lean Applied had organised a half-day Lean Six Sigma tour at the GE Engine Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in Subang. About 20 participants from different companies had joined the tour to witness and experience real time Lean Six Sigma at the legendary GE.

GE which stands for General Electric is a renowned US based multinational company operating globally providing various engineering services and products to its clients. Six Sigma had gained a foothold in GE since the late 1980’s, over time continuous improvement for highest performance, quality and ‘zero defects’ have been inculcated in its culture.

GE’s association with Six Sigma is phenomenal, countless literatures had been written worldwide on GE and Six Sigma.

In Malaysia, GE Engine Services had started its operations in 1997 and provides services such as overhauling, maintenance, and repair services for aircraft engines. It had carried on its Lean Six Sigma culture and had attracted many clients such as Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and other Asia-Pacific airlines.

At present GE Engine Services prides itself in having three Black Belts to oversee and facilitate projects at its Subang premise. The Lean Six Sigma tour started off with an opening remarks made by GE Engine Services Sdn. Bhd.’s Managing Director. "GE is always happy to open its doors and is committed to share its Six Sigma experience with the community," says Alan Jones, the Managing Director.

Lean Applied’s Director General, Sharil Goh Mohd. Fadhil added "This tour serves as a common platform of knowledge sharing in Lean Six Sigma, it is a privilege to be given this opportunity and also an important form of motivation."

After the brief opening remark, MTBE Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. represented by Erwan Alias (a Black Belt practitioner) and accompanied by M. Fuad (Black Belt Project Champion) presented its Six Sigma experiences with the tour’s participants.

The tour continued with sites visits on the facility, the Lean Tour Observation Sheet provided by Lean Applied helped the participants to record their observations and learned knowledge for the day.

Finally a Lean Six Sigma presentation by the GE Engine Services team was delivered and a session of questions and answers were held. To end the day a photography session of the delegates and the GE Engine services team were held.

In all, the tour was a success and Lean Applied believed that many had gained tremendous benefit from the tour. Lean Applied would like extend heartfelt thanks to GE Engine Services for their time and commitment, to MTBE Malaysia for their continuous support and to all the delegates from Epson, MAHB, MIDF, FTC, Toto Seremban, Proton, Spansion, Tamura and Goodyear for making the tour a fruitful and enjoyable one.
