What is certification?
Certification is formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has proficiency within, and a comprehension of, a specified body of knowledge. It is peer recognition, not registration or licensure.

How can I use certifications on my business cards?
Individuals with ASQ certification may indicate their certification(s) on their personal business cards. Please refer to your certification in terms which are consistent with the legal requirements found in many states.
Canadian Provincial and Territorial laws prohibit the use of the term "engineer" unless an individual is registered in Canada as a Professional Engineer. However, ASQ-certified individuals would not be in violation of this law if they use the acronyms "ASQ CQE," as appropriate, as a title instead of the word "engineer."
What are the work experience requirements?
If you do not meet all of the necessary qualifications, you cannot sit for the exam.
For certifications with education waivers, may may only claim one waiver toward your experience requirement.
Biomedical Auditor |
You must have five years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Certified Biomedical Auditor Body of Knowledge. At least one year must be in a decision-making role.

Calibration Technician |
You must have five years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the Certified Calibration Technician Body of Knowledge.

HACCP Auditor |
You must have five years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the Certified HACCP Auditor Body of Knowledge. At least one year must be in a decision-making role.

Manager of Quality/ |
You must have at least 10 years of higher education and/or work experience in one or more of the areas of the Manager Body of Knowledge, including a minimum of five years in a decision-making position. If you have a degree, diploma or certificate program beyond high school, you may waive some of the required experience.

Master Black Belt |
To become certified as an ASQ MBB, a candidate must successfully meet all requirements. To be eligible to apply for the MBB examination, a candidate must hold a current ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB)*. In addition, a candidate must have either of the following experience levels. |

Pharmaceutical GMP Professional |
You must have five years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the Certified Pharmaceutical GMP Professional Body of Knowledge. A minimum of three years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. There is no education waiver. |

Quality Auditor |
You must have at least eight years of higher education and/or work experience in one or more of the areas of the exam Body of Knowledge, including a minimum of three years in a decision-making position. If you have a degree, diploma or certificate program beyond high school, you may waive some of the required experience.

Quality Improvement Associate |
You must have two years of work history to sit for the exam. If you have an Associate/Bachelor's/Master's/Doctoral degree, you may waive the work experience requirement. |

Quality Inspector |
You must have two years of work history in the Certified Quality Inspector Body of Knowledge and a high school diploma or GED. If you do not have a high school diploma or GED, you must have five years work history in the Certified Quality Inspector Body of Knowledge. |

You must have two years of work history to sit for the exam. If you have an Associate/Bachelor's/Master's/Doctoral degree, you may waive some of the required experience. |

Quality Technician |

Six Sigma Black Belt |
You must have two completed work projects with signed affidavits or one project with signed affidavit and three years of work experience as it pertains to the Body of Knowledge. There is no education waiver. You do NOT need to be a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt. |

Six Sigma Green Belt |
The Six Sigma Green Belt requires three years of work experience within the Body of Knowledge. This certification is NOT a requirement for Six Sigma Black Belt Certification. |
Degrees or diplomas from educational institutions outside the United States must be equivalent to degrees from U.S. educational institutions.
Decision-making is defined as the authority to define, execute, or control projects/processes and to be responsible for the outcome. This may or may not include management or supervisory positions.

Quality Inspector, Quality Improvement Associate, Quality Process Analyst, Quality Technician, and Six Sigma Green Belt are lifetime certifications. They have no recertification requirements.
How can I apply for a certification exam?

What is the format of the certification exam?
All examinations consist of multiple-choice questions that are carefully designed, reviewed for correctness, and computer-scored. The Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence exam also contains two constructed-response (essay) questions.
The exams take three to five hours, depending on the certification. If you complete your exam early, quietly take your exam booklet, answer sheet and any scratch paper you have to the proctor. You may then leave the exam room.
All exams are given in English. Additionally, ASQ offers translated exams in some countries.
